Elves

Elves come in every imaginable shape and size, with skin tones as varied as the lands they inhabit and magical talents that span every element and discipline. Whether born of the sea, raised in the forests, shaped by the city, or descended from the eternal night, elves exist in countless forms across Mythica.

Despite their diversity, elves share a reputation for wisdom, grace, and deep magical affinity. As a result, they are widely regarded as one of the most respected and trusted species in the realm. Their long lives, cultural traditions, and natural connection to magic make them valued allies—and, at times, formidable opponents.

Elves are beings who seem to exist slightly outside the ordinary rhythm of the world. Their pointed ears—often colored or patterned according to their subspecies—are their most recognizable feature, but their true distinction lies in their longevity. Elves commonly live five to six centuries, and this immense lifespan shapes their entire worldview. Time moves differently for them; decades feel like seasons, and centuries like chapters in a long, unfolding story.

Elven culture is deeply intertwined with magic and the divine. Their cities often rise around ancient temples, shimmering academies, and sacred groves where magic flows as naturally as water. Many of the most powerful mages in Mythica are elves, and their devotion to the gods has shaped some of the largest and most influential religious centers in the realm.

Across Mythica, elves appear in many forms—each subspecies reflecting a different aspect of their shared heritage. Sea‑born elves, forest‑dwellers, city‑kin, and those shaped by the eternal night all carry unique qualities, traditions, and magical affinities. You can read more about each of these subspecies below, as every elven lineage has its own quirks, strengths, and stories woven into the tapestry of elven kind.

Standard Elves

Standard Elves are often considered the most familiar and approachable of all elven kind. While they lack the dramatic abilities or extreme traits of some of their more specialized cousins, this also means they carry none of the weaknesses. Their balanced nature makes them adaptable, steady, and capable of thriving in nearly any environment.

They can be found throughout Faeloria, though most make their homes in Aranya, Dunart, or Dunaris. As that is were most of the standard elven kind resides.

Many outsiders claim that Standard Elves are “just humans with pointy ears,” but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Unlike humans, elves possess a natural affinity for magic. While it is true they need to study harder to use magic as well as their other elven brothers and sisters they are not weak.

Nature Elves

Nature Elves are the second major subspecies of elven kind, instantly recognizable by the living elements that cling to them. Flowers bloom in their hair, leaves curl around their clothing, and vines often wrap gently around their limbs as if drawn to their presence. Their pointed ears are almost always adorned with plant based decorations. Spotting a Nature Elf is rarely difficult.

Most Nature Elves make their homes in Marilon, Elysium, and Korind, all located within the realm of Faeloria. These regions are known for their lush landscapes, ancient groves, and deep magical roots.

Among all elven subspecies, Nature Elves adapt the most easily to new environments. As long as there is sufficient nature they can thrive. Their bond with the natural world grants them resilience, intuition, and a sense of belonging wherever life grows.

Traits

  • Nature Magic: Deeply attuned to forests and wild places, they channel Nature magic at a significantly reduced cost.

Weaknesses

  • Urban Discomfort: Nature Elves feel physically and magically drained in heavily urbanized areas with little greenery. Prolonged exposure can cause headaches, irritability, or weakened magic.
  • Fire: Nature elves are terrified of fire, they have a weakness to fire. It is near impossible to get a nature elf near campfire.

Sea Elves

Sea elves are elegant, fluid beings shaped by the rhythm of the ocean. They share the familiar grace of their land‑dwelling kin, but everything about them feels touched by the tides. They are creatures of both water and air, comfortable slipping beneath the waves for long stretches of time.

This supspecies of elves primarily lives in Zythar, which is located in Faeloria. The waters of Faeloria is the only one they can permanently resides in.

Sea elves often have a strong sense of curiosity about the world above the waves, though they approach it with caution. They are wary of those who disrespect the sea, yet they can be warm and loyal companions to those who earn their trust.

Traits

  • Water Magic: They share a deep, instinctive bond with the sea, granting them access to water‑aligned magic at a greatly reduced cost.
  • Gills: Adapted for life beneath the waves, sea elves possess both gills and lungs, allowing them to breathe water and air with effortless ease.

Weaknesses

  • Sea elves have a natural vulnerability to Electro. Their bodies adapted to the conductive depths react sharply to electrical energy, and many develop an instinctive fear of it.
  • Land Sickness: Most beings suffer from seasickness, but sea elves experience the opposite, prolonged time on land can leave them disoriented and uneasy, a condition they call land‑sickness.

Dark Elves

Dark elves, are elves shaped by centuries spent in the eternal night of Luminis. They move with a predatory grace, silent and precise, as though every step is calculated. Life in the Underdark has honed their senses and instincts; they are always alert, always watching, always ready to strike or vanish into shadow.

Dark Elves mostly live in Eryndor, which is located in Luminis. A place where the sun never shines it light.

Traits

  • Nightvision: Dark elves possess flawless night vision, able to see with perfect clarity even in complete darkness.

  • Divine Magic: Divine magic harms dark elves when used against them—the purity of its light clashes violently with their shadow‑aligned essence. However, with enough study and discipline, they can still learn to wield divine magic themselves, though doing so is far more taxing for them than for other beings.

Astral Elves

Astral elves are a lineage shaped by eternal night, having lived their entire history beneath skies ablaze with brilliant, unending starlight. This celestial upbringing lends them an air of quiet contemplation, calm, distant, and thoughtful, as though their minds drift along the same cosmic currents they study.

Their society places immense value on understanding the heavens. Astrology and astronomy are not merely academic pursuits but cultural cornerstones, woven into their philosophy, spirituality, and daily life. Mythology, too, holds a special place in their traditions, for they believe ancient stories echo truths written in the stars.

Their homeland, Astraris, devotes the majority of its resources to these disciplines, functioning as both a sanctuary of learning and a beacon of cosmic insight.
