Vampires
Vampires are widely viewed as cursed beings, feared, distrusted, and pushed to the edges of society. Most kingdoms regard vampires as dangerous creatures rather than sentient people, defined more by the blood they must drink than by the minds and personalities they possess.
The only place where vampires are accepted is Luminis, the realm where the sun never rises. In its eternal twilight, vampires can live without fear of sunlight.
Vampires are undead beings, caught in the strange space between life and death. They are not truly alive, yet not fully dead either. Their bodies no longer function like those of humans: they do not eat food, they do not digest, and they do not gain nourishment from anything except blood. Human blood is the most potent source of sustenance, though many vampires can survive on animal blood when necessary, albeit with weaker effects.
Born Vampire
Born vampires have never experienced what it means to feel truly alive. From their very first breath, they exist as vampires—caught between life and death, shaped by instincts and abilities they never chose. Their bodies grow and mature like any other child’s, but only until the age of eighteen. At that point, their aging halts entirely, freezing them in a state of eternal youth.
Born vampires carry the legacy of their bloodline, and with each generation, that legacy grows stronger. A first‑generation born vampire is roughly equal in power to a newly turned vampire. But by the sixth generation, their abilities can be much stronger, their strength also increases naturally with age; the older a born vampire becomes, the more formidable they are.
Unlike turned vampires, who must adapt to their new existence, born vampires have never known anything else. Their instincts are sharper, their control more refined, and their understanding of their own nature far more intuitive.
Born vampires can manifest as either Daywalkers or Nightwalkers, depending on the traits inherited from their parents. This distinction is determined at birth and cannot be changed.
Turned Vampire
Turned vampires are individuals who were transformed later in life, and as a result, they begin their undead existence on the weaker end of the vampiric spectrum. Since they were not born as vampires, their bodies must adapt to a new state of being. one that often overwhelms them at first. Though they share the same weaknesses as all vampires, their initial strength is noticeably lower than that of a born vampire.
Turned vampires are always Nightwalkers. Their fangs remain visible, and their eyes often take on a sharper, predatory gleam that marks them unmistakably as creatures of the night.
The early days of being turned are the most dangerous. Newly turned vampires typically have no control over their instincts. Their hunger is overwhelming, driving them to attack any living creature in sight. This feral state can last for years if left unmanaged.
Because of this, mentorship is crucial. A newly turned vampire who is taken in by an experienced mentor can learn to control their instincts far more quickly. The more skilled and older the mentor, the faster the fledgling stabilizes. Some mentors can guide a new vampire to basic control within months; others may take years.
The two types of vampires
Daywalkers
Daywalkers are vampires that can live in the light. They sun doesnt burn them immediatly. But they still burn way faster then most species. They can easily pass for a human. Daywalkers can hide their fangs on command. Making them seem less like a monster and more like a human. But even then their only source of food is still blood.
Daywalkers are always born as a vampire and at least one of the parents has to be a daywalker as well. Even Daywalkers still stick to just living in Luminis normally.
Nightwalkers
Nightwalkers are vampires that burn alive when touching sunlight. In the words of the headmistress they become crispy fried vampires. Making it much harder for them to pass as human. It might even be considered fully impossible. Nightwalkers are unable to hide their fangs. Making them always stand out.
They normally only live in Luminis just like their Daywalker counterparts. Nightwalkers can be either a born vampire or a turned one. To be born a nightwalker one of the parents has to be a nightwalker!
Vampiric traits & Weaknesses
Vampires may share many traits, but each sub species comes with its own unique abilities. Below, you’ll find a list showing which skills each vampire sub species possesses and which they don’t. Keep these differences in mind when choosing your vampire, as they can shape your entire experience.
Weaknesses
- Vulnerability to Light: Nightwalkers are scorched by the sun’s touch, their bodies burning if they step into daylight. Crispy burned vampire.
- Garlic: Garlic has a strange effect on vampires. Whether they smell it or ingest it indirectly through another’s blood, it sends them into a dazed, drunken state.
- Blood Deprivation: Vampires must consistently feed on the blood of living beings. Prolonged starvation causes progressive deterioration, ultimately resulting in death.
- Invitation: A vampire is bound by an ancient rule: they cannot cross the threshold of any given location without an invitation from someone who owns the building or lives there.
Traits all vampires
- Immortality: All vampires possess true immortality. Time may pass, but their bodies remain unchanged forever.
- Regeneration: Though vampires can be hurt like any other creature, drinking enough blood allows them to heal far faster than humans ever could.
- All vampires possess a natural connection to blood magic, enabling them to access blood‑related abilities more cheaply than other magic types.
- Nightvision: Vampires are able to see clearly in the dark.
Traits daywalkers
- Sun protection: Sunlight does not kill daywalkers, though it may give them discomfort depending on their lineage. This leaves them able to go out into the sun.
Traits born vampires
- Hiding fangs: Vampires born into their lineage possess the rare ability to retract their fangs at will. This makes it far easier for them to blend into a society that fears and often rejects their kind.
- Aging until 18: Vampires born into their lineage continue to age normally until they reach eighteen. After that, their bodies cease aging entirely, leaving them frozen at the start of adulthood.
Traits Turned vampires
Parental abilities: When a mortal is turned, the transformation does not erase who they were. Their original traits and weaknesses persist, shaping the kind of vampire they become.
